Ianir Milevski, October 2023 Winner of Prize "Raices" (Roots) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Argentina in Humanities and Social Sciences
We are happy to announce that Dr. Ianir Milevski, a senior research archaeologist at the Israel Antiquities Authority, and a member of the Multidisciplinary Institute of History and Social Sciences, in the National Research and Technical Council of Argentina, won the "Roots" (“Raices”) award of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Argentina for the year 2023 in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The award is given following his activity in universities and research institutions in Argentina in the field of archaeology. Dr Milevski has a long-term collaboration with Argentinian researchers and students including them in archaeological excavations and projects In Israel. The “Roots" awards (“Raices “, acronyms in Spanish of the Network of Argentinian Researchers in the World) are intended for Argentinian and other scientists, researchers and technologists who stay abroad and actively cooperate in strengthening the Argentine system of science, technology and innovation.
This year the award was given to 7 scholars in natural, exact and social sciences among almost 100 researchers and scientists, and to the highest authorities of the institutions from the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation in Argentina and abroad. The places of residence where the nominated scientists carry out their work, aside from Argentina, are the following countries: Germany, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Spain, United States, Finland, France, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Great Britain, and South Africa.
Since 1995, Dr. Milevski has conducted seminars and research programs in the archaeology and prehistory of the Levant in Argentina. In 2007 and until today he joined the "Roots" program of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation. Since then, he has had several visits to Argentina. The visits included teaching activities at eight universities, public lectures at these universities as well as at High Schools, museums and local libraries. He also participated in several congresses on Ancient History and Archeology at several universities of that country.
Among human resources training, the joint guidance with professors from the University of Buenos Aires of doctoral students in archeology. Argentinian teachers and students participated in a number of excavations conducted by Dr Milevski and others at the archaeological sites in Israel.
Dr. Milevski won five grants funded by the Argentinian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, with colleagues of Argentinian universities. The last two ones allowed researchers and students from the University of Buenos Aires to participate in the Tel Erani excavations together with teams from the University of Cracow, the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and local archaeologists of the Antiquities Authority.
